How to create a URL redirect in Squarespace

Whether you're a first-time website builder or an experienced Squarespace user, setting up a URL redirect in Squarespace is really easy. This blog post will walk you through it step by super simple step.

The Basics of a Redirect

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty details, let's quickly review what exactly a redirect is and why it's important. A redirect is simply when one URL points to another page or site. There are several types of redirects by the main two are 301 & 302.

301 means the move is permanent. That URL should always point to that destination. This type of redirect tells search engines that the page has permanently moved and that they should update their index accordingly. In other words, it helps keep your SEO rankings intact even if you've changed URLs or moved pages around on your sit

302 are for temporary redirects. You use these when you're changing the URL for a short time. You would use this if you're redesigning or updating a page on your site. Once you're finished, you'll change the URL back or create a new one.

Example of a redirect

I like to use URL redirects to have easy-to-remember URLs that point to blog pages.

For example, a lot of my custom code tutorials can be applied to a single page instead of site wide. This question comes up on my YouTube channel often, so I set up a redirect for the URL insidethesquare.co/singlepage to take people to the blog post URL insidethesquare.co/squarespace-tutorials/single-page
