How to add social share buttons to a blog post in Squarespace 7.1

This tutorial is specifically for the latest version of Squarespace, known as 7.1, and won't work for older versions of Squarespace. For more information, visit https://insidethesquare.co/themes

Squarespace 7.1 can do a LOT of cool things... but there are no social share icons for individual blog posts.

That's where ShareThis.com comes in handy!

I needed to install ShareThis.com on my own Squarespace 7.1 blog so I recorded the process so you can learn how to do it step by super simple step.

You can sign up for free at sharethis.com and follow these steps below.

Be sure to take a look at the buttons on the bottom of this blog post to see these buttons in action 😎

Here are the steps:

  1. Head on over to https://sharethis.com

  2. Create and customize your buttons, picking the platforms you want to have buttons for

  3. Sign up for a free ShareThis.com account

  4. Install the code in your code injection for your whole site (settings → advanced → code injection → header)

  5. Save your work so your Squarespace site will reload

  6. Copy the social button code block from ShareThis

  7. Hop into edit mode on a blog post

  8. Add a code block, pasting the ShareThis code

  9. Save the post

  10. Add your domain to ShareThis

  11. Click on Activate Code on the top right hand side of your ShareThis dashboard

  12. Test the buttons in the post in a new window where you aren't logged into Squarespace
