A Beginner’s Guide to Squarespace Summary Block
Share your existing content on other pages with a Squarespace summary blocks.
Summary blocks are a convenient way to share content from your existing blog posts, events, products, or even videos on other pages of your website.
This content block can display images, titles, excerpts, meta data, and links to your content in an organized way.
Summary blocks have a few premade layouts to choose from, and each collection page has it’s display settings.
You can filter the summary block content by tags and categories, making it easy to feature information that your website visitors will want to see next!
How to add a summary blocks to Squarespace
Select edit on the top left-hand side of your website preview.
Click the add block button on the top left corner of a page section. If you are using a classic editor section, click the blue plus sign to add content block.*
Select the summary option form the list of content blocks.
Double click on the summary block, or click once and select the pencil icon to open the content block edit options.
On the content tab, you'll need to select a collection page that you want to show a summary of. This can be a blog, event, store or course.
You can choose to display two elements of meta data, like a blog post date or store category. You can also choose none.
Your last option is filter items. Click this option if you want to feature specific items in the collection that belong to a specific category or tag, or items you have labeled as featured.
There are a lot of settings available on the design tab and many of them are unique to the summary collection you are displaying. The next section of this article has more information about summary block display settings.

Squarespace summary block design settings
Summary blocks have four different layout styles, each offering a unique way to showcase your content. Here's a quick rundown to help you decide which one is best for you:
Wall Layout: Think of a Pinterest board! This layout displays your items in a staggered grid, making the most of the available space and creating a visually interesting mosaic effect.
Carousel Layout: Great for showcasing a lot of content in a limited space. The carousel displays a few items at a time, with handy arrows visitors can use to scroll and see more.
List Layout: This layout keeps things simple and clean. It displays your content in a straightforward list format, one item after another.
Grid Layout: Think of a perfectly organized photo grid on Instagram. This layout displays your items in neat rows and columns, ensuring a consistent and balanced look.
No matter which layout you choose, you can customize it further in the Design tab. Here, you can adjust how many items appear, how the text is aligned, and even the spacing between them.
