How to Create Custom URL Redirects in Squarespace for Your Flodesk Forms
Long Flodesk form URLs are great if you don’t have a website yet, but if you do, they don't exactly scream "professional" when you're trying to share them.
You can transform those lengthy links into clean, branded URLs using your own Squarespace domain. Think yoursite.com/freebie instead of yoursite.myflodesk.com/a948jf7d... (you get the idea).
This simple redirect setup means you’ll have:
Your own domain name in every link for better brand consistency
Short, memorable URLs that are actually easy to type and share
Cleaner links for social media, business cards, and conversations
The flexibility to update where links point without changing the URL you've already shared out in the world
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Get Your Flodesk Form Link
In your Flodesk account, find the form you want to link to. Click the three dots next to the form and select copy form link. That's it—the URL is now on your clipboard.
Step 2: Open Squarespace URL Mappings
Here's a quick shortcut: Press the forward slash (/) key on your keyboard while in your Squarespace dashboard. Type "URL mappings" in the search box and select it from the results.
Step 3: Create Your Redirect
In the URL mappings field, you'll create a redirect using this format:
/your-custom-url-slug -> your-complete-flodesk-form-url 302
Here's what each part means:
/your-custom-url-slug— Your shortened URL (e.g.,/newsletteror/freeguide)->— The redirect operator (dash + greater-than symbol)Your complete Flodesk URL — The destination where people will go
302or301— The redirect type (explained below)
Real example:
/freeguide -> https://mysite.myflodesk.com/a948jf7d 302
Important: Make sure you have spaces before and after the arrow.
Step 4: Choose Your Redirect Type
You have two options:
302 (Temporary) — Use this if you might change where the link points later. This is the safe choice and gives you flexibility.
301 (Permanent) — Use this only if you're certain this redirect will never change.
When in doubt, go with 302.
Step 5: Save and Test
Click Save to activate your redirect. Then open a new browser tab and test your new URL. If it takes you to your Flodesk form, you're all set!
Creative Ways to Use Redirects
This technique works for any external link, not just Flodesk:
/email— Email signup form (This is what I do: insidethesquare.co/email )/freebie— Lead magnet or download/book— Scheduling link/shop— Etsy or online store/instagram— Social media profile/waitlist— Course or product launch page
Best Practices
Keep URLs simple and memorable. Use clear words that relate to your content.
Start with 302 redirects. This gives you the flexibility to change destinations later without affecting shared links.
Document your redirects. Keep a list of what custom URLs you've created and where they point. You'll thank yourself later.
Use lowercase paths. yoursite.com/Guide and yoursite.com/guide are technically different, so stick with lowercase for consistency.
