5 Font Pair Ideas for Your Squarespace Site

Before we hop into the top 5 font pairs for a legible Squarespace site, here’s a quick overview on two of the most common types of font families: Serif and Sans Serif.

What is a Serif Font?

Serif fonts are recognizable by their distinctive “feet” or extra strokes at the end of each letter. They are often considered more traditional, formal, and timeless than sans serif fonts. Examples of popular serif fonts include Times New Roman, Georgia, Baskerville, and Cambria. These fonts look great in print but can be difficult to read on screens because the extra strokes can blur together when viewed at small sizes.

What is a Sans Serif Font?

Sans serif fonts don’t have those extra strokes at the end of each letter. As such, they tend to appear more modern and casual than their serif counterparts. But that doesn’t mean they lack elegance - far from it! Popular sans serif fonts include Arial, Helvetica Neue, Roboto, Open Sans, and Futura PT. These fonts are much more legible on screens because the letters don't get blurred together as easily as with serif fonts.

So now that you know a bit about both types of font families—Serif and Sans Serif—it should be easier for you to decide which one is right for your project.

If you want something that looks classic and timeless yet still modern enough for digital projects like websites or logo designs, then a sans serif might just be perfect for you!

On the other hand, if you want something more ornate and formal-looking (or perhaps something that will look great in print), then maybe a serif font is just what you need.

Whichever one you choose—have fun with it! After all, there's no wrong answer here; it's all about finding the typeface that best suits your style and needs.

Here are my top 5 font pair suggestions for a Squarespace site:

  1. Roboto and Open Sans – These two fonts are both highly legible and complement each other nicely. Roboto is a modern sans-serif font while Open Sans is a classic sans-serif font.

  2. Montserrat and Merriweather – Montserrat is a modern sans-serif font with a bold and strong personality, while Merriweather is a classic serif font that provides a nice contrast.

  3. Oswald and Lora – Oswald is a modern sans-serif font with a bold and strong personality, while Lora is a classic serif font with a more subtle and elegant feel.

  4. Lato and Raleway – These two fonts are both highly legible and have a modern, contemporary look. Lato is a sans-serif font, while Raleway is a classic serif font.

  5. Roboto Condensed and PT Serif – Roboto Condensed is a modern sans-serif font with a condensed character, while PT Serif is a classic serif font with a more subtle and elegant feel. This pair is perfect for making long passages of text easier to read.
