REFRESH

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2025

What is Squarespace Refresh?

Squarespace Refresh is the annual "here's all the cool stuff we built for you this year" announcement from the development team at Squarespace.

It’s basically like getting a surprise box of new features and business tools.

This article is my personal overview of this years updates. For the official announcement, visit squarespace.com/refresh

  • Design Upgrades

Take Control of Every Detail on Every Device

New mobile visibility controls let you decide exactly what shows up on different screen sizes, and soon you’ll soon be able to import your own font files to keep your branding consistent across your entire site. Both of these upgrades are long overdue and I think it’s a step in the right direction.

There are even more design features are coming later this year, like the ability to adjust opacity, rotate things, and some sweet animations. Rumor has it that we'll see those before the end of 2025, so this is just the beginning of what you'll be able to customize.

  • AI Upgrades

Your New Smart Assistant for Better Business Results

Squarespace is releasing Beacon AI (not Bacon, as many misread that during the announcement at Circle day 🥓) This new AI tool is supposed to act like your website concierge of sorts, giving you specific recommendations for improving your SEO, creating helpful FAQs, and optimizing your site based on your actual data.

Meanwhile, Squarespace Campaigns now has AI tools to help you write email subject lines and copy that sounds authentically like you, and hopefully not generic robot speak. (I have yet to test this so I don’t want to comment on how great it is yet!)

These tools learn your voice and your business, so the suggestions get better over time.

  • Domain Upgrades

More Options, Better Security, Creative Control

Squaresxpace announced some new top-level domains, that might finally make it possible for you to get that perfect web address you've been wanting.

There are new parking page customization features that I’m excited about. I usually redirect my parked domains to a page on different site, so it will be nice to have something unique already connected to the domain .

Security also got a major boost with embedded 2FA protection and real-time activity logs, so you can monitor everything happening with your domain.

  • Ecommerce Upgrades

Streamline Your Sales & Get Paid on Time

The new auto-integrations with Google Sheets and Zapier are going to be a game-changer for anyone tired of manually updating spreadsheets every time an order comes in.

You can also set up recurring invoices and schedule them in advance, which honestly should have been available ages ago. The improved order search and filtering tools are designed to make tracking inventory less of a headache, especially if you're juggling multiple products or variants.

I'm particularly excited about the follow-up forms that collect key info upfront; anything that reduces back-and-forth emails gets a thumbs up from me.

  • Financial Upgrades

    Funding, Payments, and Automated Taxes

Squarespace Capital is their new funding program, and while I can't speak to the terms yet, it's designed specifically for online businesses rather than traditional brick-and-mortar models.

Squarespace Payments is also expanding to Australia and New Zealand, and parts of Europe, so more of you can keep everything under one roof.

The new automated tax features handle sales tax, VAT, and GST calculations automatically, which honestly might be the most stress-relieving update in this entire announcement, especially if you've ever lost sleep over international tax compliance like me.

  • Coming Soon

The Features I’m Most Excited About

Blueprint AI is getting chat improvements later this year, so you'll be able to describe exactly what you want instead of browsing through templates. Think of it like texting a designer friend who actually gets your vision.

Rumor has it that by the end of this year, we will have interactive animations, opacity controls, and rotation features for content blocks. Basically pixel-perfect design control without touching code.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, but if these work as promised, they could completely change what's possible for DIY designers. We'll see how they actually perform when they roll out!

Key Takeaways

The mobile visibility controls are my absolute favorite feature in this entire update. Most people visit websites on their phones these days, so being able to fine-tune exactly what shows up on smaller screens is huge. I just released a new video tutorial that walks you through how to make Squarespace look good on mobile, including how to use these new visibility options to create a better experience for your visitors.

Check out the video

The AI upgrades are also worth checking out, especially Beacon AI if you've been wondering how to improve your SEO. And if you're selling products or services, definitely explore the invoicing improvements—getting paid on time is always a win.

My pro tip: Start with the features that solve your biggest current headache, whether that's mobile design, SEO, or streamlining your sales process. And be sure to check out the full announcement from Squarespace at squarespace.com/refresh
